He was god to me growing up. I started writing on shit that wasn’t mine when I was about 12 and luckily I had some older friends and relatives who were somewhat seasoned in the game of writing your “name” in public, making it look good and not getting caught. In this video Mike mentions being given an “alphabet” from your mentors and I remember being maybe 13 or 14 and being handed a folded up stack of 2 maybe 3 sheets of notebook paper from a writer that I worshipped as a kid. His name was “KOAS” and he was fucking fearless and kinda way too cool to wanna be my friend so I’m still kinda confused how this happened, but one day he was like here’s some letters, learn em and tweak em and that shit changed my life. I would sit down for hours and hours trying mimic his letters and just write out random every day words trying to learn how to make  all the letters flow and work with one another without making it looked forced or copied. A couple years ago I showed some pieces of “real art” at a show I put together. We built a tiny little free wall for everyone to tag and doodle on and as I was doing some bubbly little letters one of the other artists involved was like “damn, thats really good, its so Mike Giant,” that shit made me so fucking stoked.
